Basics of Photoshop

How to open and create an A4 portrait RGB Document 



Click File then New. (Ctrl + N)









The change the Preset to International Paper, then make Size A4 and Colour Mode: RGB Colour. Then click OK.












How to open an  image and transform scale


Click File then Open. Then select the photo you want from your files.









Then click Edit, Transform Scale (Ctrl +T)
A size box will appear around your image.










 Hold Shift while re-sizing so the picture stays in proportion.










Layers

Layers are the different levels at which you can place an image. For example, if I put the layer with the A4 sized red box over my college image. I will hide the college image.


(Select a layer by clicking on it, it turns blue when selected)


























Selection Methods



These are 2 of the 3 select tools:

The Quick selection allows you to select a part of an image which you have previously clicked.

The Magic wand tool allows you to select a part of an image based on the tone of colour.





The Lasso tool is another select tool which allows you to select the part of an image which you have drawn around.

How to add text

To add text, click on the T on the toolbar and then click on the part of the image where you want to add text. (The fonts will be at the top toolbar)







Red eye Removal Tool


Select the spot healing brush on the toolbar.










Then drag over the eyes to remove.















How to duplicate an image


There are 2 ways to duplicate an image.
The first way is to select the Stamp tool on the toolbar.
Hold Alt and click on the part of the image you want to copy.











The hold left click and move your mouse to duplicate the part of the image.











The other way is to highlight the image using the select tool.



Then click Edit, Copy (Ctrl+C). After you have done that, click Edit, Paste (Ctrl+V)







Aspect Ratio

Hold shift when re-sizing an image to keep the proportion and aspect ratio.

How to save your work as a different Format



Go to File, Save as.
















Then Pick from the many selection like JPEG and PNG.

















My Practice Magazine



I copied the student using the select tool: Lasso, i then pasted the student onto the college background.








I then selected the College layer then selected Filter, Blur, Gaussian Blur. I then changed the intensity of the blur.










I then inserted a purple box and changed the opacity of the layer to 72%. I then double clicked the layer and selected Stroke, to choose the border of the banner/ masthead.








I then added Text and changed the colour and Font.









Then by using the same techniques, i was able to complete my college magazine cover. I added a Plug, Cover Line and Footer.
