Conventions Research
Masthead - The masthead is effective as it shows you what audience the magazine is appealing to (secondary teachers)
Skyline - The skyline is used in this magazine to show the audience what is included in the magazine and what is talked about in it, i.e news and other articles.
Cover line - The cover line is used to display a controversial topic which will intrigue the audience to buy the magazine.
Footer - The footer is effective as it shows the date which tells the audience if it is a new issue or not. It also includes the institution.
Main image - The main image is effective as it links to the Cover Line and helps develop and explain the story.
Selling Line - The selling line is effective as it intrigues audiences to buy the magazine that might require the product inside.
Language - Boy on main image is excited (shows he has an enthusiastic approach to learning)
- Rhetorical question in the cover line; "can your teaching redress the balance?" - intrigues the teacher to read on to see if they are capable of "redress the balance".
- Skyline shows the latest new on the topic of school and education.
- Mixed race boy
Ideology - That boys and girls are separate in terms of education.
- That teachers should learn how to "redress the balance".
- That teachers should know the latest new about education.
- Education is inclusive.
Institution - Department for children, schools and families share this ideology.
Audience - Secondary school teachers, carers and interested parents.
Representation - The way boys have different learning methods to girls is represented by the front cover image and the back cover image. (boy is shown eager with hand up were as, the girl on the back cover is shown as quite mature as she is letting him answer the question even though she knows it)
